*SCORCHED NUTS ART GRANTS *
Scorched Nuts Art Grants are intended to encourage people to produce art projects for the Burn.  What is art? Well, almost anything can be art. There is performance art, visual art, food art - ummm bacon brownies....Where was I? Well, I'm sure you get the idea.

However, for art grant purposes, this year we are going to define art as a freestanding,  interactive art installation which can be burned or not burned.
This is the signature Burning Man artwork, and we want to encouragemore of you to construct and bring one.  This is a change from prior years,
and if you are uncertain whether your project would qualify, please contact
Ol' Bill at artgrants@scorchednuts.org and we'll discuss it.

Since we are still growing, the funds for grants may be limited.  All fundsfor Art Grants are collected through ticket sales, donations andfundraisers. Please consider making a donation to help our artisticcommunity!  For further information on donations please contact Ol' Bill atartgrants@scorchednuts.org

Based on our current financial projections, it appears that we will be ableto fund up to three projects and a typical grant will be around $150, sogrants will not cover the entire budget for many projects. We will give
preference to projects submitted by people who did not receive
an art grant last year. The amount of each individual grant may depend
on how many qualifying projects apply.

 *APPLICATION PROCESS*

We want to keep the application process as simple as possible.  Hopefullythe process outlined below will provide enough information to allow us toevaluate applications fairly, without making the application processso difficult that it discourages people.  We anticipate that we willcontact applicants during the judging process if we need furtherinformation.

Applications should be submitted by email to artgrants@scorchednuts.organd should be brief - no longer than two standard typewritten pages.

APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE - IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER

1 CONTACT INFORMATION - who or what group is presenting the proposal, andan email address and phone number by which we can contact you.

 2. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT - suggested length two pages or less with diagrams and/or pictures attached if helpful.

 3. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (IF ANY) - electrical hookups, unusual space requirements, etc.   Our Reclaim venue has no electrical outlets, so generators will be required for projects requiring more than battery power.   We should have excess generator capacity available if you cannot bring one, but we will need to coordinate this in advance.

 4. TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST OR BUDGET and THE AMOUNT
OF THE GRANT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

 *DATES AND DEADLINES*

The deadline for applications is May 8, 2011.  Awards will beannounced on or before May 22, 2011.  In past years the grant money waspresented to awardees at our raucous *Art Grant Award Ceremony* at theevent on Friday evening - which has worked well and is a lot of fun.
We plan to use the same process this year.  Alternatively, if it is helpful to theartist, we may disburse half of the award before the event, shortly afterMay 22, and half at the end of the event, following  successful leave-no-trace
teardown of the project.
