THEME CAMPS!!!!

B(agles)D(rinks)S(hirts)M(uzac

Kinda says it all don’t you think?

Burn-a-Bear

Burn-a-Bear is a theme camp which provides a unique medium and venue for participants to make their own art as part of their experience at Scorched Nuts. A twist on the Build-a-Bear company, at Burn-a-Bear participants select un-loved stuffed animals (or parts of stuffed animals) to cut up and recombine into new creations. All necessary tools & embellishments are provided in a relaxed, shady work area. Participants can then take their creations home with them, gift them to someone else, or leave them at Burn-a-Bear in the adoption area. Those who aren't feeling crafty can adopt creations to take home.

Camp Pornyata

This is our 4th year! We will be bringing our piñata filled with goodies and our lounge area for peeps to come and play about.

Chill with Ol' Bill

Pull up a chair, bring a drink and chill with one of the coolest cats on the grass.

The Erotic Exotic Social Psychotic Fruit Stand

Offering the centurion surprise, the gladiator with the most wins gets a trophy. The pagan wheel of fortune do you feel lucky, well do you? With much more, sample the elixir and fruit, or be an emperor or a slave for a turn the Pagan wheel knows all. Challenge the undefeated centurion beer bong champion to a contest if you are brave or foolhardy.

Fortunes and Fibers

Come join us for Tarot Card Readings and a place to pull out your yarns or sewing or other fiber arts.

Knitting, sewing, spinning, weaving, all have been community events for ages. We invite you to join us for some shade and to share techniques. We will have spare yarn and needles if you want to learn how to knit. We'd also love to teach you about Mindful Knitting, the art of knitting meditatively; as well as how to use yarn and other fibers to be able to dispose of stress and cares.

If you're not into Fiber Arts, take a moment to contemplate the ages old art of Cartomancy: divination from cards. We'll tell you what's in the cards for you with a simple three card reading to look at your past, present and future or you can request a more detailed and nuanced reading. Katet Camp Katet Camp will have activities ranging from drinking games such as the Beatles Power Hour, a "Smoking" lounge, alternative music, a fill in the blanks giant comic book collaborative art project and of course the return of the Comic Book Stand. We will also be serving a Cereal Bar in the morning on Saturday and serving various cocktails throughout the event. Stop by and share a moment with some friends!

Vapour

Vapour will again be providing ethereal pleasure for the body and soul at Scorched Nuts. Stop by the lounge and enjoy a beverage to wake you up in the morning, quench your thirst in the afternoon, take the edge off a long day, or celebrate the evening. Be sure to come by in the mornings for a soak in the steam dome to sweat out whatever you put into your body the night before. There are plenty of other things to do including the touchy-feel-me-box, giant slip-n-slide, and shower to nowhere. There is plenty happening at Vapour this year. The Crazy Cabana

Art Grant Recipients!

1. Kegas (Phillip McCabe) with a proposal to bring and expand his ball pit. This year the ball pit has expanded to 8ft x 8ft and is said to be "sturdy enough to withstand the drunkest of hippies!" The ball count is now over 9,000 balls(!) plus maybe funoodles and who knows what else may turn up in there?

2. Chuck Kusmic. His proposal is for an 8ft tall five pointed star made of 1/4" plywood sandwiched between a frame made of 1x4 pine, on a heavy plywood base. The idea is that people can write/draw their thoughts on the star, which we will then burn like a Temple Burn.

3.Elizabeth Schneider (Mouse). Her proposal is for "Color Me Crazy", an art space."My idea is to offer up the community a place to come, sit down, and let their imaginations run wild. I'll provide the media, and they'll provide the creativity. Paints, crayons, colored pencils, markers, chalk, paper, cardboard, you name it, and I'll do my best to have it." The proposed space is four 9'x9' shade structures arranged together in a square, providing about 18'x18' of shade space.

4. At Burn-a-Bear, participants select stuffed animals (or parts of stuffed animals) to cut up and recombine into new creations. A comfortable, shaded environment and all necessary tools are provided and participants can either take their creations home with them or leave them in the 'adoption area' where the non-crafty can adopt them and take them home. AWWW that's sweet!) We had this camp last year and it was well received.

5. Eric Coolodge, Joe Gergley, Paul Wood and Dustin Click from Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). They are bringing three large metal sculptures, and "a giant patchwork bat, made out of many pieces of fabric sewn together." At this point it is a little bit uncertain that all the metal sculptures can be brought down from Columbus, but they are:

(a) A large metal and chicken wire egg by Paul Wood, about 5ft in diameter and over 6ft high that the viewer is able to look into and see a metal landscape. This is now on display at CCAD, and it is awesome.

(b) A sculpture by Eric and Joe, "Bolder Tower". It is an abstract shape, about 13ft tall, made of approx. 1/2"x1/2" square steel rod meant to symbolize man's non organic creations and how they are finally returned to the earth through oxidation. It is a striking and impressive shape.

(c)Another smaller structure by Eric and Joe, about 8' tall made of 1/8" round rod welded into an abstract triangular shape.

Other Projects!

The Awakened One

This small installation piece will provide the Participant with a quiet moment with a meditating Buddha by a reflective tree. This is the perfect space for Participants of any or no faith to simply slow down, reflect on their surroundings and see if they have an Awakening of their own.

Burner Boutique Looking for a bit more costumery while at Scorched Nuts? Have some costume pieces that you've outgrown? Bring them to the them to the Burner Boutique located on the stage (Medic & Ranger Headquarters). Find something sparkley & bright for the Glitz Pageant or something flowy & breezy for the warm days. The Burner Boutique is open the entire event so just stop by the stage anytime to pick up and/or drop off those costume pieces. Remember to come back to check out what's out because it's constantly changing. Find out how awesome it is to see participants walking around and loving your old costumery. All costumes left over will be taken to Goodwill after the event to find a good home.
