Leave No Trace

Scorched nuts is a pack it in pack it out event.  This means that you should leave nothing behind but foot prints. If you see any litter around the campgrounds please pick it up and take it with you. Thank you!

Earth Guardians

This group is responsible for making sure the festival and its participants adhere to the Leave No Trace philosophy. In the simplest terms this means that we must leave the campgrounds better than we arrived, leaving absolutely no evidence of our having been there. Members of the Earth Guardians will be responsible for educating all participants about MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) and how do reduce waste. We will accomplish these goals by having E.G.s walk the grounds in shifts of 2 hours (Patrol Shifts). They will be provided with waste bags and gloves to remove MOOP as they go. They will stop in each camp at least once during the festival to ensure that the participants are aware of LNT, MOOP, Greening, and recycling. Approximately 10 volunteers will be needed to fill these shifts.

At the end of the festival we will need 10 to 20 volunteers to sweep the grounds after all the camps and art have been removed (Clean Sweep Crew). It is their responsibility to make sure that all trash and waste is removed, that no burn marks are left, and that the campgrounds are left looking as untouched as possible.

Also we will strive to Green our festival by seeking permission to plant several trees on the grounds to counteract the CO2 effects of our burns. We will do everything in our power to make the event as earth friendly as possible, as well as encourage participants to apply these philosophies to their everyday life.

Volunteers should register online before the event. However, everyone is encouraged to register as an Earth Guardian at KaTet Camp during the event. Sign up sheets will be available for anyone wanting to help in this area. On Friday night the Patrol Shifts and Clean Sweep Crew list will be posted at the front of KaTet Camp. Please stop in to collect materials and celebrate with your fellow Earth Guardians on Friday evening!
