Other Volunteering Opportunties...

Medical Volunteers

Are you someone who likes to help others in time of need?
Are you CPR certified or otherwise medically trained?

The scorched nuts medics are looking for a few good people to help out during the festival. We are looking for 1 to 2 more people to volunteer their time during the event. If you are interested in joining us, fill our the contact form and select "Attention: Medical Coordinator"

Earth Guardians

Earth Guardians will help spread the word about LNT through out  the event. After the event EG will be staying late to leave the camp in better shape then we found it. To learn more about about our Earth Guardians, make sure you read the Leave No Trace informational page.

Rangers

The Scorched Nuts Rangers are community members who volunteer some of their time in the role of non-confrontational community mediators. Responding to the ever-changing environment, we address within our community situations that would otherwise require outside intervention. By encouraging and facilitating communication, the Rangers promote awareness of potential hazards, from sunstroke to tent fires. We are emphatically not the police or a paramilitary organization. There are as many different reasons for being a Ranger as there are Rangers. Our strength comes from the diversity of our backgrounds and experiences. The most important qualification for being a Ranger is the desire to be an interactive participant. Helpful qualities include a sense of humor, flexibility, and a good pair of walking shoes.
Any technical skills a person may or may not have are secondary to a desire to help fellow citizens of Scorched Nuts. As our community grows, so does our need for Rangers. Come participate with us!
Qualifications: Rangering is probably not what you think. It's about contributing to a sense of community and well-being. We have fun meeting people while we roam around Scorched Nuts and we feel a sense of fulfillment from knowing we played a part in helping others enjoy Scorched Nuts safely.
Some qualifications we look for in potential Rangers are:

  • A great sense of humor
  • Patience, patience, and more patience
  • Generosity and sympathy
  • An easy-going attitude
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
An ability to look great in sunglasses and sunscreen

Lamp Lighters

How would you like to be part of a magical and mystical ceremony?  Do you like costumes?  How about lighting stuff on fire?  This is a magical opportunity to join Captain Ahab as we ceremoniously march through the camps and provide light as the sun sets.  There will be "scorched nuts" official lams, and also hooks provided so that each camp may have its own unique lamp as well.  These lamps will (if all goes well,) be authentic hurricane lamps, and will provide a beautiful backdrop as we venture into the night.

Some volunteers would be helpful prior to the evening to ensure all lamps are appropriately placed into the ground and fueled.  Other volunteers will join Captain Ahab and the glorious procession as we ceremoniously give light to our camp.  Most importantly, those brave enough to volunteer for this journey will get to hear the true legend of the lamplighters, and their mystical origins.

"If his chest had been a cannon, he would have LIT THAT BABY ON FIRE!!!"  (Moby Dick, Revised ed.)
